Temple on P-Day

Wednesday, September 8, 2004

I got to go to the temple today. I’m so glad that I have a temple here in my mission. I can’t imagine what it would be like to not go to the temple for two years. The spirit there is so great and I love going there. I hope that I’ll always be able to be close to the temple.

We actually had a good effective preparation day today. We got our apartment cleaned up a little bit. I cleaned the CR and it was really hot. I had to use water obviously and that made it more hot because of the humidity. I was really raining sweat and I kept having to stop in order to clean my glasses of sweat in order to still see. Anyways, now the CR looks a lot better. I also made a cover for my Tagalog scriptures today so that they don’t get ruined.

We had a long first review discussion with Brother Art today. I talked a log and felt good about it. When we were coming back to the apartment, Elder Tipton told me that we need to cut down on our discussion time. We’ve been having almost all of our discussions go for an hour or more and they shouldn’t go that long. I think this mostly my fault. I need to work on just saying what needs to be said and not going on and on about the same thing. I need to realize that they really are intelligent people and that they probably understand well.

Trying not to argue and hard work

Tuesday, September 7, 2004

We had a really interesting discussion this morning. We taught and he told us that he had a question that he would ask us after the discussion. We were immediately on our guard to make sure we didn’t start to argue with him. The discussion went okay but he couldn’t really wait until the end to ask. He’s a seventh day Adventist and he wanted us to try to disprove his church. He has this verse in the bible that said that wicket people, who eat pork, will be burned. He was concerned because the whole burning thing wasn’t happening. We told him that we wouldn’t argue with him and that he should ask of God for the answer. He didn’t really like that answer but that’s all we would give him. We’re always really busy now and I like it. We’re actually seeing the result of hard work paying off. I really like this way of doing things.

Busy attending church 2 times on Sunday

Monday, September 6, 2004

Yesterday was crazy because we had to go to meetings for two wards. It’s been hard to get up to speed on the investigators in the San Juan area but with the help of Sister Tess we’ve done really well. I think that we’re about up to speed and ready to work hard. We had three good first discussions today. We got to teach all of them with Sister Tess. She is really good at relating to the investigators. She really helped with the spirit in the last discussion. She’s had some amazing discussions and some awesome experiences. Here in this ward she is the greatest help to missionaries

Introducing Elder Tipton

Saturday, September 4, 2004

This morning we had a good 2nd discussion with Bro Winnie Ramos. Elder Tipton has a great visual aid of a stair case with the steps being the first principles and ordinance of the gospel. It’s really good and really draws the people into the discussion because they have something to look at. Bro. Ramos understood well and we set a date for October 16. He’s really read a lot and is really strong. I think that he really has good potential. The only obstacle that he has is that he works on Sunday and it may be difficult for him to come to church.

After our discussion, we went to visit Juris to let Elder Tipton meet her. She was happy like always and was happy to meet him. We went back to the apartment at about 12:30 and had lunch. This morning before we left we got a call from the sisters and they told us that we needed to come to the Sta Mesa chapel tonight in order to re-interview the brother that they had scheduled for baptism today. Elder Sangco had already interviewed him but didn’t sign the paper.

After the interview tonight we went to an appointment that we thought we knew we had. They weren’t there. It was hard because we talked to them earlier about the appointment but they weren’t there even though they were excited. We also visited Nanay Jose. She’s really really close to being reactivated in the church. She said that she’d some to church tomorrow with her sister-in-law. I hope she’ll not lose faith.

Forgot about service project so just went proselyting

Friday, September 3, 2004

We didn’t have service today because after transfers we were each responsible to get our own service. I didn’t know that so I didn’t have anything prepared. We just went out and did proselyting this morning. It was really good. We were trying to fix the baptismal record for Sis Niña. She’s in San Juan ward but the Elders that baptized her never turned in the records. We’re really making an effort to be really good in our record keeping so that our work won’t get lost when we move.

We worked this afternoon also in San Juan area. We had a good first discussion with Bro Boni in San Perpecto Brgy. He’s read a lot in the scriptures and knows more about the doctrine of the church than most members. He has a lot of questions though so it’s kind of hard to visit him. We also had a follow-up/review discussion with Bro Honey. He was good and showed good potential.

We noticed at the church the last few days that the neighbor kids don’t really respect the church building. They all, the nanays, hang their clothes on the fence and all the neighborhood kids play ball all the time. Also the outer wall is all graffitied we’re going to report to the PBO next week.

Transfer Day: Greenhills to Greenhills & San Juan

Wednesday, September 1, 2004

Today is transfer day. I said good bye to Elder Sangco this morning. Actually he left without telling me that he was so I didn’t get to really say good bye. I’ll miss him a lot. My new companion is really going to be good. He’s a worker and I’m excited to go to work in my area and in San Juan Area. It’s really weird not to have a Filipino around all the time to talk to all the time. I get to be the leader for this area for a while until Elder Tipton gets the area figured out. I’m really excited about this new experience

Preparing to own the area

Monday, August 30, 2004

Well today was Elder Sangco’s last district meeting. He is really sad to be finished with his mission and is afraid that he will become inactive. I told him just to always go to the temple and to never let things get before church and what he should do in it. I’m really going to miss him. We had a ward FHE at the Gonzales home earlier and I sort of felt the ward’s trust and confidence shift to me. I hope that I can serve them well and do as well as Elder Sangco.

Elder Sangco says goodbye

Saturday, August 28, 2004

We got OYMs done today but that’s about all we did. Elder Sangco is already starting to miss the mission and just wanted to say goodbye to everyone. I was really hoping that we would get to teach a second discussion to Bro Winnie Ramos but when we got there he was sleeping and his daughter said that his eyes hurt. It’s hard because he’d only available on Saturdays because of his police duty. We did get to go to a baptism for one of the sister’s investigators so that was nice.

I’m really feeling a bit stressed out because on Wednesday we have transfers and not only am I getting a new companion but I also inherited the San Juan area. So now I’m responsible for two areas and two teach them to my new companion. Quite frankly I’m really scared about the whole thing.
