Asking
Beginning our scripture study with prayer—being humble enough (and wise enough) to ask Father in Heavenly for His help. (“Ask and ye shall receive…”)
Searching
Careful reading and searching—focusing especially on fundamental principles and saving doctrines.
Pondering
Stopping often to think about and feel deeply the things of the Spirit—allowing time for the Holy Ghost to write messages from the Celestial world upon our minds and hearts.
Writing
Writing down inspired feelings, insights, discoveries, and personal applications. As we record personal revelation, we send a very important message to our Father in Heaven. The message is: “I do care about what you are saying to me.”
Thanking
Expressing heartfelt gratitude to our Heavenly Father for the words of His Son and for the sacred privilege of studying them, learning their meanings, and applying them to our personal and family lives.
I recognize this list (word for word) from Vern Sommerfeldt’s course on scripture study. Do you have more of the original source metatrails? I’m trying to piece together the notes from the class I took from him.
